Ruth Shook
Candler--Ruth Shook, 83, of Candler, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, March 14, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Banes and Annie L. Shook Barnes. Ruth was the youngest of 9 children who have predeceased her, Lily Dye, Roscoe and Cicero Barnes, Melvin Miller, Dot Reece, Alma Myers, Beulah Ledford, and Emma O'Kelley.
She was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church and retired from the Vanderbilt Shirt Company.
Surviving include her loving husband Carl W. Shook, Sr of the home, daughters, Fay Brown and husband Royce of Asheville, Linda Blankenship and her husband Roger of Mascot, Tenn. and son Carl W. Shook, Jr and wife Jane of Candler. Grandchildren, Michael Shook, Rhonda Willis, Robert Brown, Greg Blankenship, Tracey Hensley, and Julie Cooper. Great-grandchildren, Jordan, and Julia Willis, Isaiah Brown, Mackenna Cooper, Wade and Nate Hensley and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel of Faith at Forest Lawn with the Reverends Hershal Anderson, Buddy Corbin and Adam Vernon officiating. The family will receive friends in the Chapel one hour prior to the service. The family will also receive friends from 6 tp 8 p.m. on Monday evening in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Care Partners, Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville NC 28801. Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn, Candler (828) 667-8717 is assisting the family.
