Rites Held for Myrtie Akin, 71 Sunday in Tyler
Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtie Tye Akin, 71, Upshur native, were held Sunday July 19, in Tyler. Burial was at Rosehhill Cemetery in Tyler.
Mrs. Akin died in Tyler, Friday, July 17. Her husband, the late Arthur Akin, had preceded her in death 10 years ago.
The former Myrtie Eitel, she held her master's degree from Texas Woman's College in Denton and had taught many years in the public schools in the Tyler area.
Survivors include 4 sisters, Miss Lawis Eitel of Latch, Mrs. V.L. Parsons of Dallas, Mrs. Jewel Scott of California, and 3 brothers, Lawrence Eitel of Dallas, O.B. Eitel of Alaska, and C. E. Eitel of Gilmer."
Myrtie's parents were Willis Monroe Eitel #27234073 and Rosella Annette Carrington #27234037. She married Cullen F. Tye. After his death, she married Arthur Akin.
Cullen Tye's brother Jesse A Tye married Queenye Jones, d/o W.W. Jones and Florence Josephine Howard (attached to Alva Myrtie). See Florence's obituary which references her daughter Mrs. J. A. Tye with whom she lived until her death.
