John J. Bentze Dies; Popular Mail Carrier
John Joseph Bentze, Sr., popular Milford letter carrier, died Tuesday in Middletown. The man, whose cheery greeting was familiar to hundreds of residents in the center of town whose homes he had visited daily for years, lived at 37 Cricklewood Rd. He was 55 years old.
Funeral services will take place Saturday at 8:30 am in the Smith funeral home and at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's church with a solemn high mass of requiem.
A native of New York city, Mr. Bentze had lived in Milford since he was 10 years old. He was a member of Tinto Council 47 Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and a past president and past secretary of the Myrtle Beach Community club. He served in the Navy during World War I.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Catherine Bentze; a son, John J. Bentze Jr., now in the Navy; two daughters, Kathleen Bentze of Milford, and Mrs. William C. Biggs, of Patchogue, L.I.; two brothers, Fred Bentze, of Jamaica, L.I., and George Bentze, of Bridgeport; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
