Charles J. Dicus, 84, of Olney and formerly of Allendale, died Sunday April 12, 2009, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel.

Friends may call from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel.

He was born April 8, 1925 in Allendale, the son of Erie Benjamin and Sara (Banks) Dicus. He married Mirlene Sayge on June 1, 1948, in Morganfield, Kentucky. She preceded him in death in 1994.

Charles was a member of Allendale United Methodist Church and lifetime member of American Legion. He retired from Mt. Carmel School District 348 Maintenance Department. Charles served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a POW. He served in the European Theater, participated in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star.

He is survived by two children, son Benjamin L. Dicus of Sumner, and Marla K. Groeninger of Elberfeld, Ind.; three grandchildren, Ben (Corrinna) Dicus, Charlie (Servane) Dicus and Josh (Bethany) Mounts; and five great-grandchildren, Dakota and Brynlie Mounts, Trevor and Trenton Seibert, and Braden Dicus.

He was preceded in death were his parents, wife; son, Roger Dicus and his wife Judy; and 10 brothers and sisters.
