Jane Gertrude Blair was born 8 January 1830 in Walton County, Florida, USA, the oldest child of Samuel Blair (1797-1860) and Hannah C. [McCreary/McCrory] Blair (1805-1870). Her known siblings are Mary Ann [Blair] Kea (1835-1892), Elvira Blair (1839-?), Samuel Blair (1842-?), Flavious Josephus Blair (1846-1902), Charles H. Blair (1849-1929) and Allen Walker Blair (1853-1920). The 1860 Census records show Jane living in Calhoun, Mississippi. She was 30 years old, unmarried and living with a Joseph & Caroline Thedford. Shortly after that, she was married to Preston Parker Moore in Calhoun City, Calhoun, Mississippi. Preston was a widower and the father of eleven children. Jane took over the duties of mother to his children. Preston & Jane were the parents of five children of their own: Lydia [Moore] Cox (1861-1895), James Preston Moore (1863-1920), George C. Moore (1866-19??), Andrew J. Moore (1869-1873) and Benjamin Allen Moore (1872-1940). The family moved to Arkansas between 1866 and 1872. The 1900 Census record shows Preston and Jane living with their son Benjamin Allen Moore. The number 8 seemed to have special significance to Jane as not only was she born on the 8th of the month but she passed away 8 September 1918 in Barber, Logan, Arkansas. She was 88 years and 8 months old. The cause of death was listed as "old age". She was laid to rest in the Pine Log Cemetery in Barber, Logan, Arkansas.
