From the Daily Atlas (Boston, Mass.) July 20, 1846:
Horse Thieves in Phillipston. On Thursday night, 9th inst., a horse was stolen from the pasture of Mr. Ezra L. Bates, in Phillipston; and, on Saturday morning, the thief was taken, in Buckland, and deposited in Greenfield jail, and the horse returned to the owner. This was the third horse which has been stolen in Phillipston, and all have been recovered by the owners.
