Graveside services will be held tomorrow for Charles Edward Graves, who died Monday after a lengthy illness. He was 91.
Mr. Graves lived with his wife, Mrs. Winifred Graves, at 431 Laurel Ave., Menlo Park. He had been a Menlo Park resident since 1939. he came to the United States from Ninagh, Tipperary, Ireland, when he was 20. (Naturalized on 5 Sept 1893, Hastings court,Roanoke, Virginia.)
Mr. Graves was one of the first men to use animated cartoons for commercial advertising in movie theaters. He started using the cartoons while he had his own agency, the See Graves Advertising Agency in Albany, New York. He spent most of his life working in sales and advertising.
Prior to World War 1, he was managing director for Royal Typewriters in Great Britain. During world War 1 he was a captain in the United States Quartermaster Corps.
He retired several years ago after being a sales tax investigator for the California State Board of Equalization.
His son-in-law is Frederick Peterson, former county manager of San Mateo County.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Graves Peterson of Menlo Park; and Curtis A. Graves of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Services will be held tomorrow at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

Charles was buried February 7, 1957 on a cold, rainy afternoon. "Snowbound" by John Greenleaf whittier was read at the grave-side services.

Charles is the grandfather of Helen Carol Peterson.
