Harrison Neely Hickman
From the obituary:
He was born in Brown County near Rising Star in the Hog Valley Community, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hickman. He was reared on his father's ranch and received his early schooling at the Hickman schoolhouse.

He graduated from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood where he was an honor student. He played tackle on the football "Wonder Team" which was undefeated for two seasons, winning from the strongest universities of the state. He completed his education at the University of Texas, receiving his law degree in 1907. He immediately took up residence in Abilene, forming a partnership with his boyhood friend, Dallas Scarborough.

He married Nancy Lee Young, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Young of Brownwood, in 1916. Nancy Lee was a fellow student at Daniel Baker. They were active in the Presbyterian Church affairs where he was an elder. He was also a Mason, a Knight of Pythias, a Kiwanian, active in Chamber of Commerce work and was city attorney of Abilene at various times. He had no desire to hold office, however, and on several occasions declined appointments to the bench.

In 1918 T.P. Davidson was added to the partnership. T.J. McMahon later joined the firm, which had a very high standing in West Texas. His law partners were gravely affected by his death from a heart attack, following a bout with influenza. "Mr. Hickman was as nearly a perfect man as any man I ever knew," said Dallas Scarborough. "He was the finest character I ever knew, a man of few words, warm-hearted with a marvelously clear legal mind," said T.P Davidson.

He is survived by five brothers and four sisters. Brothers: Will Hickman of Oklahoma, Ace Hickman of Baird, R.D. Hickman of Sweetwater, W.R. Hickman of Coleman and Roy Hickman of Rising Star. The sisters are Mrs. S. W. Browning of Sweetwater, Mrs. N.E. Nance of San Angelo, Mrs. D. Roach of Amarillo and Mrs. Robertson of Comanche County.

The Presbyterian Church was unable to accommodate the gathering of Mr. Hickman's friends. Many stood on the inside and some were unable to enter. Abilene's bar was represented nearly to the man.
