Following the tradition of early Flusche families, Lawrence visited Bishop Lynch in early 1938 to inquire about the possibility of establishing a Catholic community in Decatur. The Bishop agreed and in 1939 dedicated the first Catholic Church. He operated a business with his brothers, Alois and Conrad for many years. He was in the automotive and petroleum enterprises including a Pontiac auto agency and an Arco distributorship. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1978.
They had daughters Mariana, Della, and Joanne; 9 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren.
