George [Dowell] was born in Bedford County, Va. in 1788, coming to Kentucky when twenty years of age, settling in this county. His wife, Mary Dowell, was the daughter of (blank) Wimp, who came from Ireland in an early day and settled in Pennsylvania. He came to Kentucky in 1800, and settled in Meade County, where he died nearly half a century ago. Mrs. Dowell was born in Pennsylvania in 1793, and married Mr. Dowell about 1812; she died in Breckinridge County in 1877. She was the mother of the following children;: Cinderella, William H., Griffin S., Nancy, Lorenzo, Mary, Armilda, Rachel, George, Richard and Benjamin.
