Gilbert J. "Gib" Hansel, 76, of Edgewood, Iowa, died on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Edgewood Convalescent Home. He was born on May 25, 1932, at Rural Garber, Iowa, the son of Earl and Lucille Hansel. Gib was raised and educated in Clayton County rural school and attended Elkport High School.
On August 25, 1952, Gib was united in marriage to Delores Bissell in Garber. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. After his discharge, they farmed in the Garber area, until they sold his farm in 1978. They continued to lived on the farm until they relocated to rural Edgewood. Gib was employed at the Silver Edge Co-op. He entered the Edgewood Convalescent Home in 2006.

Gib served as president of Hansel Cemetery and was an American Legion member. He enjoyed playing cards at Sears Gas Station, mushrooming, fishing, and "shooting the breeze"

Survivors include his two daughters, Sondra Kulper and special friend, Bob Fagen of Colesburg and Melody Hartz and her husband, Doug, of Shellsburg,; four grandchildren, Heather (Shad) Clark, Heidi (Brent) Durham, Danielle Kulper, and Jaimi Fagan; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lee Hansel of Guttenburg.

Gib was preceded in death by his wife, Delores on February 13, 1990; four children, Jennifer Hansel, Cindy Hansel, Christine Hansel and Tyler Hansel; his parents; and one sister, Louise Meyer.
