Marion E. Felkins, 89, Independence, Kansas, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at his home.

He was born June 26, 1919, at Earlton, Kansas, to Fred and Mary Jane Longfellow Felkins.

He attended rural Earlton area schools.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He married Eva Faye Bailey on Nov. 21, 1945, in Chanute, Kamsas. She survives.

He was employed as a switchman and brakeman with the Santa Fe Railroad for 35 years.

He was a member of the Grace-Memorial United Methodist Church.

Other survivors include three sons, Ronald and Michael Felkins, both of Independence, KS, and Gary Felkins, Corder, MO; a daughter, Patti Felkins, Caney, KS; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at Grace-Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, KS, under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel of Independence.

Contributions to Grace-Memorial United Methodist Church may be made in care of the funeral home.
