LAWRENCE -- Mabel C. Bamber, 95, Lawrence, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at a hospital here.

She was born July 1, 1903, in Stockton in Rooks County, to James Daniel and Edith Jane Steele Lambert. She moved to Lawrence in 1926. She had been a partner at Grover's Market in Lawrence where she worked until 1962.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrence and the Good Fellowship Circle at the church.

She and Ira Lee Grover were married March 11, 1922, in Alma, Neb. He died Jan. 23, 1950. She and Harry Bamber were married Aug. 5, 1962. He died March 13, 1981.

A daughter, Thelda D. Reck, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Arvid Grover, Milwaukee, Wis., Arland Grover, Laramie, Wyo., Adryn Grover, Holiday Island, Ark., and Daniel Grover, at home; stepdaughters, Marilyn Hains, Lompoc, Calif., and Doris Zehe, Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Devota Shelton, Sacramento, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mrs. Bamber will lie in state after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.
