William Flint Horton's parents were Anthony and Christina Moore Horton.
William F. Horton was a corporal, 6th Regiment of the Kansas Cavalry, enrolling 7 Jan. 1862 at Ft. Scott, Kansas. He suffered complications from a case of the mumps during his military service and spent time in a hospital at Newtonia, Missouri. There, he was later kicked by a mule. He was discharged 18 March 1865 at Devulls Bluff, Arkansas at age 44. He was 5-9 1/2 tall with dark complexion, black hair and blue eyes. He received a disability pension from his service in the Union Army.
During his service he furnished his own horse and tack, according to a company muster call of January and February 1864, and May and June of the same year. He enrolled as a private, was a corporal 1 Feb. 1862 and a sergeant, 20 Sept. 1862. Muster roll in Jan. and Feb. 1863 shows him to be absent, sick in hospital at Newtonia, Missouri. Muster roll of Nov. and Dec. 1862, he was absent, sick in hospital at Ft. Scott, Kansas since 17 Nov. 1862.
