William Vincent Smith was the son of Henry Haines Smith and Sarah Baird.

He married (first) Lavara Jannettie Baird abt 1865.

He married (second) Margaret Yelenek on 4 Nov 1886.

William died at the home of his daughter in Oklahoma City, OK.

William V. Smith was born in Wood County, Ohio, September 11, 1842 and passed away at the home of his daughter in Oklahoma City, September 20, 1930, at the age of 88 years and 9 days.

He moved to Illinois when eighteen years old, and soon afterward enlisted in the Civil War in the 93 Illinois Infantry where he served his country for three years.

At the close of the war he was united in marriage to Lavara J. Baird. In 1869 they moved to Kansas and settled just north of Cuba, being among pioneer residents of this community. To this union were born six children. His wife and one son, Marquis A., preceded him in death. The latter dying at Cuba in February 1926.

After residing in the Cuba community for many years, in later life he moved to Oklahoma, and the last three years of his life he spent with his daughter at Oklahoma City. He was converted at the age of eighteen and lived a consistent Christian life the remainder of his days here on earth.

He leaves to mourn his loss four sons, Elmer of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; George V. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Wilfred E. of Cuba, Kansas; Edwin H. of Compton, California; John M. of Basin, Wyoming; one daughter, Nellie J. Smith of Oklahoma City; and many other relatives and friends.

The body was brought to the home of his son, Wilfred, at Cuba, Monday evening. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church there Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Cundiff in charge. Interment was made in the Farmington cemetery.
