Johan Kappel was born April 29,1885 in House #110 Furstenthal,Austria, To Anton And Klara Kappel. With the shutdown of the Glass Factory in Furstenthal, the Immigration of Austrians to the U.S. was on it's way. John's family joined in and headed to Kansas U.S.A. where there was a promise of work on the railroad and cheap land to all comers.
On May 24,1905 They landed at Ellis Island N.Y. aboard The Breman. From there they headed for Kansas and by 1908 John had met Theresa Gaschler and was Married on September 22,1908 in Ellis, Ellis County Kansas. He lived and worked there as a Farmer until 1933, when he was confined to Kansas State Tuberculosis Sanatoruim. He remained there with no visitors until his death on April 13,1934.
Some Family members use Koppel as an alternate spelling but all records in Austria and U.S. show Kappel. I also have signatures of various family members using Kappel. My mother who is still with us uses Kappel and is the source of the information.
