She was the paternal grandchild of Calvin Pool and his (2nd) wife Catherine Green; and gr-grandchild of William B. Pool & Alcey/Ailey Powell, all of Wake County. She was the maternal grandchild of Needham Bryant Bagwell & Isabella Thompson of Wake County.
Hattie was 20 years old when she married on December 18, 1901 to 32-year old Angus Archie McDonald of Moore Co, NC.
The couple did have 3 known children:
* Eugene Leo McDonald (1905-1940)
* Alton Lloyd McDonald (1908-1976)
* Elizabeth C. McDonald MacNeil (ca. 1913)
Hattie died quite young in 1917. She was only 35 years old. Her children were raised by her widowed mother in Raleigh.
Son, Eugene L. McDonald married, but died young and is buried at Ebenezer United Methodist cemetery in Garner. Alton married, and was for many years a pressman for the News & Observer newspaper. He had one known son, Alton Jr. Elizabeth married Edward Wilkerson MacNeil of NC in 1930, but divorced in 1968.
