Petersburg Observer Jan. 14, 1905: Mrs. Martha Hughes, (nee Sullivan) was born in Green County, Ky., April 15, 1818 and died at the home of her son F. M. Hughes in Petersburg January 5, 1905 aged 86 years, 8 months and 21 days. She was united with the Christian church some twenty-five or thirty years ago and was baptized in that religion, embracing that belief until the time of her death. She was united in marriage with Austin Rosby Hughes in the year of 1834, and was the mother of eight children, five being left to mourn her loss, three sons and two daughters, also thirty-two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Elder Groves at the home of F. M. Hughes on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial in Smoot cemetery.
