Born Adelaida Serrano and called Lala, she was the daughter of Manuel P. Serrano and Josephine Mellus.

She married (unknown) Smith.

She married Otto Morton Roberts, son of Rev. Robert Roberts and Emily E. Ball, on June 18, 1906, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California; the marriage ended between 1910 and 1920. The couple had no children together.

She married Hugh Glassell, son of Andrew Glassell and Lucy M. Toland, on July 20, 1926, in Santa Ana, Orange County, California; they were married until his death on July 21, 1938. The couple had no children together.

On the 1910 Census, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, Lala and Otto resided in the household of Lala's maternal grandmother, Adlei [sic-Adelaida] Alexander. Adelaida (Johnson) [Mellus] Alexander was the mother of Lala's mother, Josephine (Mellus) Serrano; Adelaida was neither Lala's mother nor Otto's mother-in-law as was erroneously shown on this census.

On the 1920 Census, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, Lala S. Roberts, divorced, appeared as the head of the household. Her widowed mother, Josephine (Mellus) Serrano, resided with her, as did the divorced lodger, Hugh Glassell.

On the 1930 Census, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, Hugh Glassell appeared as the head of the house where his wife, Lala Glassell, and his mother-in-law, Josephine Serrano, also resided.

On the 1940 Census, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, Lala Glassell, a widowed niece, resided in the household of Agnes W. Hodges. Agnes Wiley (Alexander) Hodges was the younger half-sister of Lala's mother, Josephine (Mellus) Serrano, who had passed away in 1935. Both Josephine and Agnes were daughters of Adelaida (Johnson) [Mellus] Alexander; Josephine was the daughter of Adelaida's first husband, Francis Mellus, who died in 1863 at the age of 39, and Agnes was the daughter of Adelaida's second husband, David Watt Alexander, whom Adelaida married in 1864.
