Virginia, Neb., Oct. 6—(Special to the Daily Sun)—A most distressing accident occurred one mile south of this place this afternoon about three o'clock, when Barton Barnard, a young man thirty-two years of age had his life crushed out while attempting to run a threshing machine outfit up a steep incline. The separator had became stalled in a draw, and in attempting to pull it out with the engine, the coupling broke. Barnard made an attempt to hook onto the separator again, and in backing the engine, he lost control of it and, it struck the separator with terrible force crushing him to death. He was not an experienced engineer, and took very little precaution in handling the engine to avoid an accident.
Barnard was an unmarried man, and has a brother and sister living near Filley. He worked on W. A. Waddington's farm near that place the past season. The remains were removed to the home of Carson Barnard, a brother of the deceased, who resides on the James Kerr farm, one and one-half miles east of Filley. W. W. Scott of Beatrice, was notified and went to Filley last evening to prepare the body for burial. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Filley church. The remains will be interred in the Filley cemetery.
