Death came suddenly at noon on Wednesday to one of Myerstown's most prominent residents, Isaac N. Bahney, of 11 North College Street, known throughout the county as a businessman and banker. Although Mr. Bahney had been in declining health for a number of years and had retired from many of his former community activities, nonetheless his death yesterday came as a shock to his family and his friends. Born in Myerstown, January 31, 1874, he was a lifelong resident of that community and his life story is woven with the story of the community development and progress. His parents were Adam Bahney and Sarah (Noecker) Bahney. The business of furniture and funeral work was established by Mr. Bahney's father and grandfather in 1884, and has been progressing ever since. It was in 1900 that Mr. Bahney took over the active management of the firm, and 25 years later his son, Edgar Bahney, became the active manager of the business enterprise. The older Mr. Bahney, however, as senior member of the firm, maintained an active interest in the plant. It was in 1919, during the flu epidemic that Mr. Bahney became seriously ill, and according to members of his family he had never completely regained his health since that time. Mr. Bahney was a licensed funeral director of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and was a director of the Myerstown National Bank for many years, having served for a time as the bank president. He was a member also of the Myerstown Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife, Agnes (Mathews) Bahney; a son, Edgar N. Bahney, Myerstown; and a grandson, David I. Bahney, of Myerstown.
