Lizzie E. Dodge Dies;
Services Held on Monday

Funeral services were held Monday at the United Methodist Church for Lizzie Ellen Dodge, who died Friday, March 10. The Rev. Robert A. Williams officiated at the service and interment was in Fairview Cemetery at Terril

Mrs. Russell Clark, organist, accompanied Mrs. Larry McBain and Connie Dodge as they sang. Pall bearers were Calvin Dodge, Albert McBain, Wayne Langner, Marlin Langner, Chester Winslow, and Delbert Clague.

Lizzie Ellen Longshore was born Sept. 17, 1876 in Will County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Emma Maria Payne Longshore and Charles Thomas Longshore.

The Longshores came to Iowa in 1883 and for a few years lived on a farm near Barnum. Seven years later they moved to Dickinson County and located south of Spirit Lake.

At the age of 15 Lizzie joined the Methodist Church and remained a loyal member all her active life. After graduating from county schools Lizzie Longshore attended Normal school at Spirit Lake and then taught in the county school system until she married Ernest Ira Dodge on July 4, 1896. They were the parents of four children, all surviving their mother.

The Ernest Dodges spent all of their creative years in Dickinson County, mainly near Terril until Ernest met a tragic death east of town on August 15, 1925.

Widowed, Lizzie lived with her children for a period and then moved back to Terril. In 1953 she went to live in Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, later transferring to Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, where she lived at the time of her death at the age of 95.

Surviving Lizzie Dodge are her four children; Mrs. C. D. Langner of Storm Lake; Mrs. C. R. Winslow of Iantha, Missouri; Orville E. of Buffalo, Missouri and Ralph E. of Springfield, Missouri. She also leaves twenty grandchildren, spread from California to Switzerland, plus sixty-six great-grandchildren and seveteen great-great-grandchildren, making 107 living descendants in all.

*Published in the Spirit Lake Beacon, 3-16-1972.
