YORK - Lewis James Henry, 93, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at White Oak Manor in York.
Born to Marcellus Jefferson Henry and Addie Cogdill Henry in Sylva, N.C. on July 31, 1914 , Lewis had resided in Charlotte 50 years before moving to York in 1994. Mr. Henry had served with the U.S. Army during World War II and following his return home he began his lifelong career as a barber. In his free time, Lewis enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends and socializing with his neighbors at the healthcare facility. He was also a former member of the Shrine. Mr. Henry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and John Baggarley of Charlotte; son and daughter-in-law, Kale and Janice Henry of Gastonia; brother and sister-in-law, Williamand Mamie Henry; sister and brother, Dixie Jane and John DeHart, all of Sylva. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Natalie Baggarley and Brad and Bryan Henry.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Services will take place on Wednesday, Dec 12 at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 5415 Hwy. 557, Clover, with the Rev. Jerry Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Charlotte is entrusted with the arrangements.
