HARVEY SACKET was born in Warren, Connecticut, December 24, 1791. He came to Tallmadge, Ohio, with his father in 1811. In 1812 he was drafted, and served six months in the army of the northwest. In 1816 he returned to Connecticut and married Thalia Eldred, and located in Tallmadge until 1825, when he removed to Ruggles Township, on lot eleven, section three. He removed with ox teams, and owing to sparseness of settlers, and the narrow forest paths, was eight days on the way. Mr. Sacket died August 11, 1875. He was twice married. His family by his first wife was: Dimmes, wife of Mr. Smith, Erastus and Erasmus M; Irena, wife of C. Curtiss. His first wife died in 1843, and in 1844 he married Mrs. Mary Van Vranken, widow of Garrett Van Vranken. He had one son, Justus H. Sacket, by his second wife. Justus resides on the homestead. Mr. Sacket was long a member of the Congregational church, and was an excellent citizen. He was the first justice of Ruggles.
