William Love was a private in the Virginia Continental Army 1st Regiment Light Dragoons. He was married to Winiford Carney. He was admitted to the Virginia Lunatic Asylum at Williamsburg (Now Eastern State Hospital) on April 28, 1803 from Shenandoah, VA and died at the hospital on April 10, 1813. John Bowden was paid to make a coffin for Mr. Love. He was buried in the original cemetery located on Newport Avenue. According to research from The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation there were 55 patients buried at the site between 1777-1826 and William Love's name was not included on the 1991 monument because no first name was given - only "Mr. Love."
