James married his first wife, Martha Ellen Renshaw in 1873. They had two children: Ethel, b. 1877 and Charles, b. 1880. Martha died in childbirth in 1882.
Peter moved to Missouri, leaving his children in the care of relatives in Illinois. He later married Carlotta Gheen (1889) and had several children.
His first daughter, Ethel, married Henry Clay Guthridge. They eventually settled in Polk County, Oregon. Charles, her brother, never married. He also lived near Ethel and Clay in Polk County most of his life.
It has been interesting this year (2009) to discover more about James and his life. Many thanks to all those have helped me in this search!
