Winchester was born in 1842. He passed away in 1920. The earliest definite information we have for Winchester Good is when he enlisted in Illinois, he received a pension for his service which he lived on for the remainder of his life. We know that the regiment he was enlisted in was gathered from the Pike Co. area, Illinois, the same area that his wife Julia Ann Boots was from and that on his enlistment he gave his residence as Milton, Montezuma Township, Pike County, Illinois. Winchester's stated birth year on the census' went from 1842 to 1846 for whatever reason ie. person giving the information not knowing, written down incorrectly or transcribed incorrectly, he also stated that he was from Indiana, Ohio and different places for each census. If Winchester was born between 1840-1850 we look for the closest census to his enlistment for Illinois, with his residence as listed on his enlistment and find in 1860 there is a listing for a family headed by Nancy Good (which is mistranscribed for Mary) with a son, whose name is barely readable as Winchester 15 years old and two daughters, Charllote age 12 years and Susan 10 years with Winchester being born in Ohio and Nancy(Mary) being born in Tennessee. There is no father listed. There is a Joseph R and a Mary Good buried in the Pearl Cemetery, Montezuma Township, Pike County, Illinois. Joseph buried in 1859 and Mary buried in 1890, the death date of Mary, Winchester's mother. Winchesters, sister, Mary S. married William Pease and her mother Mary shows up living with her and her husband in the 1870 census. Going back to 1850 Ohio we find a family Joseph Good, cabinetmaker, born in Tennessee married to Mary born Pennsylvania with Children: Micheal S, Isom W (Winchester) (he was listed as Isom W. on other documents., Charlotte and Mary S. born in Ohio, with appropriate ages.
