Luther Kenneth Lilly, the youngest of six children, was born on June 28, 1914, in Lewiston, Minn., to Albinus and Martha Nettleton Lilly. He was educated in the Mercedes Schools in South Texas and later graduated from Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles, Calif. While living in Mercedes, he worked at the Cudahay Plant making cheese and butter.

He married Ozella Hunt on July 12, 1937, and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary July 12, 2008. They were blessed with three children, Kenneth Lilly, Velma Lee Lilly Skelton and Janice Lilly Mosley. Velma Lee died in March of 1996.

As a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. After moving to Edinburg, he was employed by Central Power & Light Company where he worked at the water plant and the electric department. He enjoyed working with his hands and built a house there on some land he bought. Several years later he moved the family to Los Angeles, Calif., to help his brother who was manager of Home Ice Company. Missing Texas and his relatives, he later left the big city and moved back to Texas, locating in Paris in September of 1951 where he was employed in the machine shop for Westinghouse Electric Company.

He was an honest man believing in "a day's work for a day's pay." After retiring in 1979, he enjoyed traveling, gardening and yard work as long as his health permitted.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as past master. He also served in the Scottish Rite, York Rite and Knights Templar Lodge and received a 50 Year Certificate. He was also a member of AARP and attended the monthly meetings, where he enjoyed visiting and fellowship with friends there.

His life was centered around his church family at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ. He loved everyone and often spoke about the good people who attend there. He was baptized at the Church of Christ in Mercedes on Sept. 7, 1934. Playing dominos and games with family and friends was a great pastime to Luther.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; and one daughter.

Survivors include his wife, Ozella; a son, Kenneth Lilly and wife, Ginny, of Richardson; a daughter, Janice Mosley and husband, Freddie, of Paris; his grandchildren, Brian Lilly and wife, Kathryn, of Cedar Park, Lance Lilly and wife, Melinda, of Corinth, Cindy Jenkins and husband, Gil, of Dallas, Lee Skelton and wife, Stephanie, of Sibiu, Romania, Teena Propst and husband, Clint, of Alexandria, Va., and Chad and Candi Mosley of Paris; and a son-in-law, Jack Skelton of Burkburnett.
