He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War ll. He retired from Sears Roebuck with 33 years service. He continued to work with the International Order of Odd Fellows and was a longtime beekeeper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Rothrock Boyte; an infant sister; and a sister, Josephine Whitlock.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanna Nache, and her husband, David, of Asheville; two sons, Sam Boyte and wife Linda of Atlanta, Ga., and Fred Boyte and wife Beth of Mooresville; a grandchild, Megan Boyte of Mooresville; a niece Nancy W. Overton and a nephew John Whitlock, both of Carthage.
