A. Dale Mallary, 87, of 96 Lakewood Road, died the night of April 2, 2009, in his home. Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late Charles and Belle Jones Mallary.

He married the former Maxine Pisor Conner on July 14, 1967.

He was retired from U.S. Steel Corp.'s Ellwood Works, where he had been a craneman. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid golfer and golfed in the Mohawk Retiree Golf League and Castle Hills Retiree Golf League. He also was a car enthusiast and loved his 1974 El Camino. He was a member of Evangelical Community Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Betsy D. Mallary of Rochester, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Victoria Mallary of Santa Rosa Beach, Fl.; two stepsons, James Conner and his wife, Kathryn, and Jack Conner, all of New Castle; a sister, Leah Coates of Concord, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Tritt and Jean McKnight; and a brother, Paul Mallary.

Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will provide military rites. The Rev. Robert Stroebel, pastor of Evangelical Community Church, will officiate.
