Hunter was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Dallas and died April 22, 2007, in Log Cabin.
She was preceded in death by her parents James Thomas Smith and Carrie Oleta Gregory, husband George Edward Hunter and granddaughter Jennifer Jeanene Byerly.
She had lived in Log Cabin for the past 22 years and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mabank. She was an administrative assistant and the first mayor of Log Cabin. She was a past city council member. She played the piano at the Village Church in Log Cabin.
Survivors include her sons Darrell Johnston, Mabank; William Johnston, LaGrange; and Stanley Johnston, Denton; daughters Linda Barnes and husband Jack, Mendon, Miss.; and Sharon Hudson and husband Tracy, Denton; brothers Tom Smith and wife Joy, Commerce; and Carl Smith and wife Vickie, Pilot Point; sisters Geneva Mikesell, Greenville, S.C.; and Nellie Belmonte and husband Edmund, Mabank; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; beloved pet Sugar, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Pallbearers were William Johnston II, Darrel Johnston Jr., Gary Byerly Jr., Dale Wood, Edmund Belmonte, John Dale Williams, Wesley Files and Tim Neeper. Honorary pallbearers were Tom and Carl Smith.
