James William Alexander was born January 5, 1844 in Loudoun County, Virginia and at his death was 63 years, 10 months and 1 day old. At the age of 8 years he came with his parents to Belmont County, Ohio, moving from there in 1882 to Washington County, Ohio. February 24, 1865 he enlisted in Company C., 36th Regiment of Ohio Vetorian Infantry Volunteer and was discharged July 27th, 1865 at Wheeling. He then lived in Muskingum County, Ohio until in the fall of 1868, then moved to Rock Island County, Illinois. He resided there until 1873 when he was married to Clare E. Wright, March 12, 1873, living there 1 year, then he moved to Adams County, Iowa, where they lived until March 1897, moving to Lenox where he resided at the time of his death. He leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Higgins, two grandsons, two sisters, three brothers and other relatives to mourn his loss.
