Historical encyclopedia of Illinois and Knox County Pg 871 gives bio of the life of
James H. Conner and states he was born in Franklin County, Ohio on 29 August 1841 and is the son of Benjamin Conner and Ellen L. Stephenson (Stevenson) who was a native of Ohio. Mr. Conner came to Knox County, Illinois in 1843.

Franklin County Ohio Deed Bk 77 Pg 298 - In 1863, James H. Conner of Knox County IL sells land to John Stevenson of Franklin County OH - record states it is for land that was conveyed to Richard Stevenson (this is James Conner's grandfather and his mother Ellen Stevenson is listed in his will in 1835 - she appears to be dead by 1850 as she is not listed on the census so James appears to be selling the land as the heir)
