She was born April 15, 1925, at Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, daughter of Riley Bedford South and wife Easter, nee Bunt.
October 3, 1942, she was united in marriage to James Evans Akridge and eight children were born to this union.
Mrs. Akridge had attended Oak Grove Baptist Church, Lonedell.
Mrs. Akridge was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Easter South; two sons, Richard and Harry Akridge; five
brothers, Melvin, Leroy, Alonso, Coolidge and infant Boyd South; and seven sisters, Lillian Smith, Dessie Branch, Geneva VorHees, Edna Porter, Flora Henson, Nora Henson and an infant Estelle South.
She is survived by her husband, James "Jim" Akridge, St. Clair; two sons, Anthony Akridge and wife Roselind, Imperial, and Phillip Akridge and wife Karoline, Manhattan, Kansas; four daughters, Norma Kay Price, St. Louis, Cynthia Thoms and husband Billy, St. Clair, Gina VerHey and husband Sid, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Debbie Hillyer and husband Paul,Springfield, Illinois; one brother, Hollis South, Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Dollie Stout and husband Bill, Cahokia, Illinois,Moddie Blowers and husband Jay, Michigan, and Nadine Frederickson, Florissant; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren;one brother-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with Reverend Chauncey Clay officiating.
Private committal services will take place at a later date.
Memorials to the Akridge family or to the charity of the donor's choice are preferred.
