David Carstairs, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1993, in his home. Born in Pittsburgh, Oct. 2, 1913, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Black Carstairs. Mr. Carstairs was an accountant for Equitable Gas Co until his retirement in 1978 after 40 years of service.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the West View post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, McKinley-Stuckrath Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, and Christ Episcopal Church. He also was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, downtown, where he sang in the choir for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred Owston Carstairs; and one brother, James B. Carstairs of Mt. Lebanon.

There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ Episcopal Church, 5910 Babcock Blvd., Ross, with the Rev. Rodgers Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Union Dale Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
