The following year on September 1, 1907, her 71-year old widowed husband married 35-year old Emma (surname unknown). No children resulted from this marriage. Newton died in 1917 and is buried in the Confederate Soldiers section at Oakwood Cemetery.
Their son, Atlas Branch, and descendants are buried here.
Son, James Hardy Branch married Minnie Ellis of Clayton. They are buried at Elizabeth United Methodist Churchyard in Johnston Co.
