He was the paternal grandson of Pvt. Newton A. Branch (CSA) and his wife, Lugenia; and the maternal grandson of Capt. Littleberry (a/k/a Little Berry) Hinnant (CSA) and his wife, Kate Chamblee.

Leslie married Edna B. Upchurch of Wake County.

He died in 1996 at age 90. His wife died 2 years later at age 89.
