Sarah Ann Sexton/Saxton was born in Indiana in 1858 to Hiram Richard Saxton and Mariah White Saxton. She was the 6th of 9 children. At the age of 16 she took a job in a hotel in Gary, Indiana, where she met her future husband, Marcus Asbury Lamunyon who was a guest at the hotel. Sarah and Mark married March 23, 1875 and lived in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Georgia before finally settling in Dekalb County Alabama. On their migration Mark supported the family by doing farm work and casting cement pillars, urns and other decorative cement works from molds. They had 13 children and many, many grandchildren. Their decendants are in the hundreds with a great many of them still living and raising families on Sand Mountain Alabama within minutes of their original homestead.
