Roman F. Brandl
Roman F. Brandl, age 87, a resident of Sartell, MN and formerly of Buckman, MN died Oct. 2, 2001 at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 6, 2001 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery in Buckman. Military rites were conducted by the Pierz American Legion Post. Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.

Roman F. Brandl was born Oct. 6, 1913 in Buckman, Morrison County to the late John and Frances (Jenson) Brandl. He grew up in Buckman where he attended grade school. He graduated from Pierz High School and then attended St. Cloud State University for two years. Roman moved to California and later returned to Buckman and worked for the Brandl Garage. He entered the United States Army on May 18, 1942 and received an honorable discharge on Jan. 24, 1946. Following the service he returned to Buckman and took over the operation of the Brandl Garage. He was united in marriage to Alvina M. Lochner on Dec. 28, 1948 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. Following their marriage Roman and Alvina lived in Buckman. In 1973, Roman semi-retired and later retired in 1975. He served as mayor of Buckman for 23 years. Alvina died Feb. 10, 1975. Roman continued to live in Buckman until 1993 when he moved to Sartell to live with his daughter. In 1995, he became a resident of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud where he resided until his death. Roman was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman, Pierz American Legion Post and the Catholic Aid Society.

Survivors include sons and daughter; Arlen Lundblad and wife, Wanda, of Pierz, Jim Brandl and wife Connie of Coon Rapids, Tom Brandl and wife Sue of Gypsum, CO, and Deb Wermerskirchen and husband, Craig of Sartell; sister, Florence Brandl of Minneapolis; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Alvina; parents; brothers, Ed and Al Brandl and sisters, Leona Baron and Adella Zenner.

Casketbearers were Matthew Lundblad, Andrew, Mark, Brian, Chris and Scott Brandl, Kyle and Kory Wermerskirchen.
