Elmer Smith
Elmer Smith, a highly respected resident of Roseboorn passed away at his home in Roseboomi Sunday morning, May 24th, at 3:30 a. m.
Mr. Smith, son of Jerome Smith and Lucirida Judson Smith, was born February 13, 1861, in the town, of Middlefield Center and lived there in that vicinity until May 1927, when he purchased a home in Roseboorn, where he has since resided.
He was united in marriage to Mary A. Tripp on February 25, 1885. She preceded him, in death by nearly ten months.
Mr. Smith's illness began nearly three years ago, at which time he submitted to an operation at the Fox Hospital in Oneonta.
His cheerfulness, patience, and his ability to be about were a wonder to his friends. Through his last illness, which had confined him to his bed for thirty-one weeks, there was never a word of complaint. He was a man who made friends easily because of his sincere regard and sympathy for others. His life was truly a reflected glory of Christian, living in his home, where his helpfulness and kindness was sincere and true.
Mr. Smith has been tenderly cared for during his past illness, first by his wife, who passed away last summer and since that time by his sisters-in-law, Mrs. John P. Webb and Miss Etta Smith, and a brother, Williarn Smith.
Funeral services were held from his late home in Roseboorn on Wednesday, May 27th at 2 p. m. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Irvin Kelly, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Middlefield: Center, of which Mr. Smith had for many years been a member before coming to Roseboorn where he united with the local M. E. church.
Mr. Smith is survived by two nephews, Glen Morrison, of Pleasant Brook, and Louis Barnum, of Middlefield Center.; a brother-in-law, William Smith, of Roseboorn; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. John P. Webb, of Middlefield Center, and Miss Etta Smith, of Roseboorn; several cousins and a host of friends and neighbors.
The funeral was largely attended by relatives, friends and neighbors, who were present to pay their last respects to one whom they; had known as a friend and neighbor, and who has how gone to his eternal reward.
He was laid at Test in the family plot at Middlefield Center Cemetery. Truly, by the death of Elmer Smith, Roseboorn has lost one of its best loved citizens.
