Electrician. Born the fourth child of fourteen to the late Robert Phillip and Edith (Mathis) Davis, Jesse received his early education in the Detroit Public Schools. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in the Electrical Engineering curriculum and was selected as one of the first 13 African American students to enter into the Ford Motor Company's apprenticeship program. He served the United States Army in the 855th Engineer Battalion until he was honorably discharged. He married the former Myra Johnson in 1948 and they had two children. Jesse retired from Ford in 1987 after 45 years of employment. Jesse was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Detroit and was ordained a deacon in 1971. He later became a charter member of the Renaissance Baptist Church of Detroit in 1982 where he continued to serve as Deacon until his transition.
