Ben was born in Muenster to John and Theresia Busch Haverkamp in 1907. He married Mamie Grewing on November 11, 1931 in Sacred Heart Church in Muenster. The early part of their marriage was spent on a farm near Myra. Then the Deusman place and finally bought the Klimpt place in town and moved there. In 1975 they sold their place to AMPI and built a home on main street. He was a farmer, and oil field worker, daubbled in construction work. He battled cancer in the later part of his life and it eventually claimed his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mamie, sons Leonard and Bernard Jr. of Muenster, and daughters Marcy Switzer of Muenster and Lorene Wilson of Gainesville.
