Rockwell City – Helen L. Tucker 91, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at the United Methodist Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Anita Bane officiating. Burial will be at Garfield Township Cemetery, near Lytton. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the United Methodist Church. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, is serving the family.
Helen is survived by her sons, Bob (Cheryl) Tucker of Ord, NE, and Ray (Diane) Tucker of Spirit Lake; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Alice Wicks of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald "Jerry" L. Tucker; granddaughter Kim Tucker; and parents, Albert and Fannie Frese Rench.
Helen Louise Rench Tucker was born July 8, 1922 on a farm south of Lytton, and attended school in Lytton. On September 18, 1938 she was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" L. Tucker at Lake City. The couple established their home in Rockwell City, following Jerry's military service. Helen was a homemaker and also worked at the Rockwell City Junior High School in the cafeteria. She then worked as food supervisor at the Women's Reformatory in Rockwell City and then the North Central Correctional Facility, until her retirement in 1985. Jerry passed away in 2000. In October of 2000, Helen made her home at Sunnyview Independent Living in Rockwell City. In April of 2013, Helen became a resident of Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. Helen was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She will always be remembered for her friendliness and was always willing to lend a helping hand to her relatives and friends.
