Lemuel S. Pounders was born in 1787 in North Carolina and fought in the Creek Indian War with the Tennessee Volunteers in 1812-1813. He came to Franklin County prior to 1820 and homesteaded land near Rockwood. He was found on every Federal Census of Franklin County, from 1820-1870, according to Miss Pounders. Lemuel Pounders was the first Pounders to settle in Franklin County and is the ancestor of the many Pounders now living in the county. Burial site unknown. By: Mae Lee Pounders
