J. Edward moved with his parents to Big Rapids, Mich., remaining homeuntil 1884. 1879 to 1882 he was engaged as a woodturner. In 1882 heentered high school at Big Rapids, graduating in 1884. In the fall ofthe year he entered the Literary Dpt. of the University of Michigan,graduating with his class in June 1888. He was subsequently admitted to the study of law in the Law Dept. at Ann Arbour . He was admitted to practice in; the State of Kansas in March 1889 and located at Seneca, Kansas engaged as an Attorney at Law.

"The family moved from Seneca Kansas to Pasadena CA in June 1906. In February they moved to Pomona. That June they moved back to Kansas due to the 1907 financial panic and homesickness. ByJune 1908, they returned to Pomona.
