Cletus Engelken, 35, Topeka, KS, former Senecan, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Engelken of Seneca, KS, was killed Tuesday evening, Jan 27, 1953, in a crash of two trucks in a residential area of Topeka.

The Topeka Daily Capital stated that the trucks collided at 25th and Indiana streets. Engelken was thrown from his truck and it turned over into a ditch, pinning him under it. He was dead when the truck was removed.

The other truck belonged to M. Katch and Company, and was driven by John Kaeberle, 21 yrs, of Topeka. The Capital states that Kaeberle was taken to Vail hospital, where he was treated for cuts on both knees, a slight concussion and shock, and that he was kept at the hospital for observation.

Cletus Engelken had moved to Topeka from Seneca two years ago. He served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, the former Frances Koch, and by daughters, Jane Ann and Dorothy, and son, Billy. He is also survived by brothers, Alfred Engelken, Centralia, KS; Bernard Engelken, Seneca, KS; Aloysius Engelken, Seneca, KS; Kenneth Engelken, serving with the armed forces in Germany; sisters, Mrs. Leona Koelzer, Onaga, KS; Mrs. Rosalita Mace, Buckeye, AZ; Mrs. Florence Pearson, Seneca, KS; and Mary Ann Engelken, Seneca, KS.

Funeral Services were held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca, KS. Burial in the church cemetery with full military honors.
