I have read that my 3rd great grandfather-Francis lost his right arm. Below explains how it happened.

F. H. Cheeves of Company C, Bonaud's Battalion Post Office: ?Stiovese? Providence Having been granted a Furlough on the 20th of Sept 1864 at Americus, Ga, by Surg. Wible And having appeared before this Board for recommmendation for EXTENSION OF FURLOUGH, we do hereby certify that we have carefully examined him and find that [make a full statement of the case] he is unable to comply with Paid Gen Duty because of Amputution right arm upper third and in consequence thereof, he will not, in our opinion, be fit for duty in a less period than thirty days, for which time we recommend an extension of his furlough.
This document is signed by a Board of 3 surgeons P.A.C.S.
