Glider Pilot Regiment A.A.C. 2nd Wing Airspeed Horsa I LG999 and Stirling LJ842

On a training exersise Tuesday the 4th of April 1944 The glider was being towed by Stirling LJ842. Its occupants were two glider pilots and the members of No: 3 Platoon 'A' Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion The King's Own Scottish Borderers. All were killed when the glider crashed following a collision with a tree.. During this exercise (Exercise DREME which involved 140 gliders being towed off from Keevil) a total of eighteen gliders crashed but this was the only accident involving fatal injuries.
