Mary "Carolyn" Wilson, of Joplin, Mo., was greeted into the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, March 26, 2009, after a lengthy illness at Freeman Hospital.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Sand Springs, Okla., to Joe Lewis and Mary Alice (Lytle) Lewis.

Carolyn moved to Joplin as a teenager and resided in the Joplin and Carl Junction area for the remainder of her life.

Carolyn married Donald Lee Wilson in Huntsville, Ark., on Dec. 20, 1952. They enjoyed a faithful marriage for over 56 years. Carolyn had been employed at Freeman Hospital for the last 29 years and had been in the medical profession for over 40 years, first as an LPN and then as an RN after graduating from Missouri Southern State University in 1986. The great compassion of her life was working in pediatrics. She worked in the newborn nursery for 17 years before transferring to the Pediatric Answering Service where she stayed until her death. Outside of her love for children, Carolyn was a frequent traveler, loved to bowl, go RV camping and loved to tell others about what Christ had done in her life.

Carolyn was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Seneca, Mo., where she taught Sunday School, served as nursery coordinator, taught Vacation Bible School and was leader of the women's book study group "WREN", Women Reaching Encouraging and Nurturing.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home; four children, Dr. Robert Wilson and wife, Terri, of Ardmore, Okla., Kerri Bogle and husband, Kevin, of Seneca, Chris Wilson, of the home and Diona Poindexter and husband, David, of Seneca. She is survived by 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Lewis and wife, Twila, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sisters, Rhonda Yost and husband, Bud, of Webb City, Mo., and Kay Brewster and husband, Dan, of Riverton, Kan.

She will be missed by a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Seneca. Brother Fred Mills and Brother Steve Patterson will officiate. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Per Carolyn's wishes, her casket will be closed following the visitation and will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the Children's Miracle Network in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel. Online condolences may be made at masonwoodard.com
