He was born November 13, 1913 at Ceresco, NE to Frank and Augusta (Wendt) Basel. He grew up on a farm near Ceresco and attended District #52 Grade School. Al farmed in the Ceresco area until retiring in 1978. He moved to Wahoo in 1981. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ithaca.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Gus, Otto, Herb and Frank, and sisters Elsie and Marie. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Orville ìDocî and Jean Basel of Lincoln; sister-in-law Tillie Basel of Bullet City, AZ; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephew.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006 at the Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Bostrom officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Ithaca. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Saunders County Care Center.
